On the poetic qualities of German beer

On the poetic qualities of German beer I can go on for hours. Pils, Hefeweizen, Dunkelhefeweizen even!, the choices are many. Each locale has its own breweries and everyone has a different favorite. One person told me recently that the best beer is from breweries that are very close to their water source. They are the freshest.

Erdinger Weissbier was recently selected as the world's best Hefeweizen. As for me, Jever Pils is always tasty and Franzikaner Hefeweizen is never disappointing. I will leave it to all of you to do your own taste testing when you arrive in Germany and determine your own favorites.

I do miss, however, a good pale ale. No German beer comes close to the biting sharpness of pale ale. If anyone would like to send a care package with a six of pale ale, I wouldn't turn it down....
