Everything here is dubbed
For some reason which probably has to do with jobs and money Germany seems to be the only European country that audio dubs all foreign movies and television shows. When I first moved here and confronted this I couldn't believe it. Not even the US does that as parochoial as our culture can be. There's nothing more ridiculous than seeing people's lips move to a language which cannot be heard.
Everything here is dubbed. And nothing has subtitles. There are one or two movie theaters in major cities that show films in original language. However, the overwhelming majority do not.
People I've asked have no reason why. Quite a few are happy with the situation because they don't like having to deal with subtitles. The only reasons I can think of is that many jobs have been created to do this. Voice actors, translators, editors, etc., all are necessary to do this work. And the industry might think the number of German speakers in Europe makes it important to do. Germany with Switzerland and Austria add up to over 100 million people.
Yet, nothing ruins the experience of a movie more than not hearing it in its original audio. So much is lost without this. Hopefully, some day the German film and tv industry will re-consider this and the german viewing public will realize how much is lost by audio dubbing.

BOOO to dubbing. I hate it. I love hearing the voices of the actors and I don't mind reading the dialogue.
