(In)convenient erasure of history

In the main square of Koblenz is a plaque that talks of the bombing the city experienced during the last eight months of World War II. Yet, it leaves out all reasons as to why the city was bombed. There's no reference to anything else but that tons of bombs fell on the city during such and such dates.

I found this plaque to be very curious. And it also piqued a little animosity. It seems like it was doing its bit to cover-up history. You can't talk of bombing without some discussion of why Germany was being bombed. You can't just talk of the effects of bombing on German civilians without talking of the effects Germany had on the citizens of many countries during the war. I see the plaque as a (in)convenient erasure of history.
