Right wing thinking starts early in some of the young
Today was my first day as a tutor for a family in Mogglingen. They live in a very expensive modern, interior decorator designed house with large open rooms, beautiful wooden floors, expensive faucets, and art work all over the place. I am the french/english tutor for the 15 or 16 year old girl and the 10 year old boy and in English conversation for the Mother.
I went over the french homework today with the girl. She had to read a brief passage and look at accompanying pictures and then complete half written sentences. The situation described in the exercise was as follows: people are in the subway when there is suddenly an announcement that many businesses have closed due to a strike. They wonder how they will do their shopping, pick up their children, get to work, etc.
As she completed the sentences her thoughts instantly went to having the police stop the strike. I found this very interesting. Several times she wanted to write sentences about how the police should stop the strike, that the strikers could be dangerous, and just how inconvenient it all was for everyone. A pity that not everyone can grow up wealthy and that there might be economic and social injustice in society!

The weathly see the police as their personal strike force. The problem that it's sometimes true. Protect Beverly Hills or Watts? Easy decision. (cities used for illustrative hyberbolic purposes. BH has its own police dept.) Ah, to not have to work and understand why workers may need to utilize one of their few if not their only tactic outside of negotiations, the strike. [insert indignation here]
