Falconers in Gmund

Sunday was the day of open stores in Schwabisch Gmund. All stores are traditionally closed on Sundays but two maybe three times a year they are permitted to be open. Last Sunday was one of those days and the stores around the main square paid for some entertainment to bring people into town. What we saw was the medieval activity of falconers. People dressed in medieval costumes with falcons, complete with the large protective leather gloves for the falcon to land on. Seeing the falcons fly was pretty incredible. One of the performers also had a huge trained owl.
Another part of the performance was a Roman charioteer. A guy dressed up like a Roman drove a chariot pulled by two horses. There are Roman ruins in Gmund and all throughout this part of Germany.
