The smell of manure is in the air....

Spring is here and with it comes the smell of manure. All the farms around have spread it on their fields in preparation of the planting. Agriculture is big business in Germany, although accounting for only 1% of the gross domestic product. About 3% of the labor force is in agriculture and family farms still predominate. The main products are: milk, pork, beef, grains, sugar beets, wine, fruits, vegetables and some horticultural products. Organic farming is big here and you can find organic foods in even basic supermarkets.
