As Stoiber wobbles, so does Merkel?

Edmund Stoiber, the powerful Bavarian State Premier of the Christian Social Union Party, faces tremendous pressure to leave his position. The CSU is and always has been a partner of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) on the national level. The CDU is Chancellor Merkel's party. The CSU has controlled Bavaria for 30 years. If Stoiber is pushed out and new elections are held, there is a strong chance that the CSU will not be re-elected. This could have major repercussions on Merkel's government.
