First snow in Baden-Württemberg

The first winter snow in Baden-Württemberg fell last night and continues to fall. Quite a lot has come down; perhaps 10 inches or so. Instantly I was thrown back to how I used to live in Chicago four years ago. The car has to be shoveled out, the walks have to be cleared, you have to leave earlier for everything because everything goes slower. And there's ice on the streets and the sidewalks. When I moved to Oakland, California from Chicago I thought I had left winter behind.

The train to Stuttgart this morning was running incredibly late so I took the express when it arrived. At the station I saw that almost every train runs late today. This is probably typical of the first major snow fall in Germany as it is undoubtedly anywhere in the world.
