Will there be jobs after I graduate?

This question was the major concern of the students in the advanced high school English placement exam preparation course which I taught last week. All but one expressed a certain uneasiness over their job futures. The only person who expressed some optimism was the electrical engineering student. He was confident of his chances. The others were studying to be in the helping professions, i.e., school teachers, social workers, etc. The German economy at present is strong and unemployment continues to creep down. How robust hiring will be is anyone's guess.
