EU foreign policy in a very disorganized state
European foreign policy is in a very disorganized state. Take the Palestinian situation for example. The European Union, like the USA, urged the Palestinians for years to have democratic elections. And they did and in the last election Hamas won. The Europeans and the Americans both very hypocritically said that they would not work with Hamas even though they were the elected majority. They tried to work with Fatah, suspended direct aid payments and did not force Israel to give the Palestinian tax receipts to the Hamas government among other egregious things. To make a long story short, Palestine is now in chaos. Would recognizing and working with the Hamas government have worked to moderate Hamas' positions on Israel, for example? Would this have helped stability be maintained in the West Bank and Gaza Strip? Perhaps.
